In October of 2008 I had the great fortune to revisit Brookgreen Gardens in Litchfield, SC. It had been over ten years since I was there last. It was even better than I had remembered. The statues, fountains, flower gardens all sprawl and wind under the watchful majesty of beautiful live oaks.
The Constitution Tree in Brookgreen Gardens. Yes, it was around during the signing of our country's constitution. The first time I saw this tree I cried. No, not because it's the constitution tree, but because it's so massive. Unfortunately, several of its limbs are missing. Ten years ago several limbs gently rested on the ground, making the canopy even more impressive. But it's still nothing to balk at.
